Shogun Athletics Story

When I was in high school I thought to myself "I would never use a personal trainer because I know everything there is to know about lifting weights and they wouldn't be able to add anything to my workouts." Man was I wrong... I went on for four years doing my thing and I get pretty fit, but then came the injuries, muscle imbalance, muscle knots, and plateaus. I realized that maybe I have been doing it wrong this whole time and there is more science behind fitness than I had assumed.


I realized that I needed to change something, but I wasn't sure what to do. I couldn't afford a trainer the time and I wasn't finding what I was looking for on youtube ( Everybody's opinion was different about how to do what.) I decided that I was going to study to become a personal trainer so I could truly understand the fundamentals of exercise and use that knowledge to help others and myself through the misconceptions of fitness and exercise.


I began to search for a nationally accredited personal training certification and through my research, I Found NASM (National Association of Sports Medicine) this is one of the most highly recognized personal training certifications. I purchased the CPT course from them and started studying, throughout my six months of studying I realized how valuable a personal trainer can be to anyone remotely interested in fitness. The amount of concepts involved with exercise is beyond what I previously imagined, this one course opened my mind to the reality of exercise modalities and bodily functions.


I became certified in January of 2019 and thought to myself "what is next"... I could have gone down the traditional path of getting a job at a fitness club and train clients one on one in person and impact at most 100 people a year. But I wanted my reach to go farther, I wanted to reach thousands of people and maybe more, I wanted to help people open their minds to the endless benefits that a personal trainer can have on your fitness journey and your health, I wanted to help as many people as possible reach their goals. So I thought to myself... " I will start an online personal training service, with a community, and blog, and a website full of valuable content. Where to start though? I Chose to join forces with my step-dad who was also a certified personal trainer and together we started Shogun Athletics.


At first Shogun Athletics was directionless, we basically had an Idea and a website. But we found an online personal training platform called Trainerize, this platform was perfect for what we were trying to accomplish. Through Trainerize we can provide all of the technical support our business needs such as an app for clients to use and an effective way to train clients at a long distance. So we had a vision, a training platform, a website, and a business name. The next step was to identify what group of people do we want to provide a service for that will one hundred percent eliminate a problem that they had, we didn't want to go down the common routes such as weight-loss, or bodybuilding. we wanted to provide something unique to a group of people who have not yet been provided a solution to their problem, the traveling business people.


People who travel for business have a major barrier when it comes to fitness, they are always on the move... This brings up lots of little conflicts with fitness such as they don't have a single gym that they can consistently go to, they cannot use an in-person personal trainer on a regular basis, they may not have a gym they can go to period and if they do it may not have much equipment, and they spend a lot of time traveling which can be hard on the bodies energy levels. All of these little barriers to fitness can make exercise while traveling near impossible.


We modeled Shogun Athletics' first program (Travel-Fit) with these issues in mind, we can provide routine weekly workouts based on whatever circumstances you encounter during a business trip. No gym inside your hotel? No problem, we can provide you with a full workout comprised of only bodyweight exercises and small everyday objects. Only 20 minutes in your schedule? No problem, we can provide you with a short workout that will move you towards your goals. Unsure of how to do an exercise? No problem, all of our exercises we give you through our members-only fitness app have video demonstrations and you have an open line of communication with one of our certified trainers.


This is just the start to a Travel-Fit revolution, It is our passion at shogun athletics to make a healthy lifestyle easier for anybody who wishes for one.
